4 months later
“Tunde I think I’m pregnant” Bisi said to her husband
one morning as she watched him dress up for work
He chuckled “well you know what to do with that” he
said without glancing in her direction.
“but...”she hesitated “don’t you think it’s time to
finally have a child of our own? I mean it would be nice to have children running around the house for a change. It would keep me from feeling lonely and-“
“that's the reason why I bought you those books. To keep
you from being idle. if you read them more often, you wouldn't feel lonely”
“it isn’t the same you know. Having a little girl or maybe a
little boy who-“
“enough!” he cut her off with a glare “I’ve told you
several times that I will share you with no one. Do you understand me? No one. Not
even my own child.”
he turned back to adjusting his tie “I will send Jide back home with the money. He will take you to the hospital. You know the rest”
he turned back to adjusting his tie “I will send Jide back home with the money. He will take you to the hospital. You know the rest”
Jide was their driver and errand boy. Bisi was not
allowed to drive.
“please Tunde, I can’t go through another extraction.” She
pleaded tears running down her face
“you should have taken the pills I bought you then. This wouldn't have happened if you did. It just goes to show your level of incompetence”
“But I did take them. I don’t know how this happened. Please
I beg you, don’t do this to me. Let me keep this baby. It’ll be the only one. Don’t
make me go through another extraction, please”
Bisi was sobbing now, she knelt in front of him
“what have I done wrong Tunde? Where did I go wrong? I have tried my best to be a good wife to you. I have killed 4 of our babies through extractions because you don’t want them. Why did you marry me if you hate me this much?”

“oh dearest wife” he bent to caress her face “I don’t hate
you. My love for you knows no bounds. It’s the reason why I do most things I do.
It’s also the reason why I have to make you do this.”
He turned away from her and left the room picking up
his briefcase.
Bisi was still on the floor crying when he walked out
the front door.
She felt desolate. What would she do? She had nowhere to go. Nobody to turn to. Her parents had died in a car crash in her final year in school, it was shortly after that she ran into Tunde. He had been her knight in shining armour. Now he seemed to be her bane of existence.
5 days later
Bisi smiled as she finished making dinner. She smiled as she watched her husband eat. She was still smiling when she went to bed that night wearing nothing but a flimsy nightie. The week had been a good week. Tunde had been in a good mood all week. It was almost ages since her last beating. It seemed almost surreal that it could happen.
she had expected him to treat her like worse than he did since he had come home 6 nights ago and she had asked for one more week before she would go for the extraction

she had expected him to treat her like worse than he did since he had come home 6 nights ago and she had asked for one more week before she would go for the extraction
As she lay in bed, finishing one of the books Tunde had
gotten her on how to be a better wife, her husband came into the room. He got
into the bed and pulled her to him.
Bisi smiled “hmm Mr. Arire”
“yes thats me” he murmured in her ear and turned her to
face him
Some days he loved foreplay, some days he didn’t. Today
was one of those nights that he wanted foreplay.
“get me some water” Tunde said 40 minutes later as he slid off her unto the bed
“yeah okay” Bisi fetched the water and watched him down the whole cup.
“more” Tunde said as he put out the cup for his wife to
refill.
He was exhausted. In fact, he didn’t know he had been out of shape that much. He guessed more work and less exercise had taken its toll on him.

Their 40 minute rump had left him famished.
As he downed the water, his gaze lingered on his wife
She had a smile on her face. A satisfied smile.
It had been long since he saw her smile like that. Maybe he had been too hard on her. Maybe not. He knew women needed a firm hand though. He had to keep her in check lest she strayed or grew too independent and forgot who was in charge.

“whats so funny?” he asked as he held out his glass for
a third drink of water. He could understand if she was that satisfied,
naturally, he was a stud. Even at 44, he held his own but her lingering smile was
beginning to look wierd.
He was about to ask again when she responded.
He was about to ask again when she responded.
“nothing, I’m just happy, that's all. Really happy.
Want more?” she held out the bottle of water
Tunde held out his glass but paused halfway. Why was it
that after 3 glasses he was still so thirsty?
He was still pondering this when a strange itchiness started
at the back of his throat. He coughed, once, twice. He glanced at Bisi, she was
still smiling.
Realization hit him hard
“what did u...*cough* wha did you give m...*cough*...drink!”
“oh no” she said “not drink honey” she said still smiling
at him “this's just plain water.”
“you...*cough* you *cough*”
“oh don’t worry” his wife of 6 years said to him, her smile growing wider “the cough
will pass, it’s just one of those side effects of magun, the next part should
be more interesting for you”
To his horror, he bleated like a goat and watched his
smiling wife giggle.
“you see Tunde” she was saying “ I am not going to kill
my baby for you. Not again. Not. Ever. Again”
He tried to talk but again he bleated and again he bleated
Bisi started laughing when Tunde did his first back
flip on the bed. She couldn't help herself, it was hilarious to watch.
By the time he had done his third and collapsed on the floor losing control of his bladder, she was almost rolling on the floor.

She straightened up herself, took a sip of water from
the bottle and got into bed with an almost cat-like satisfied purr.
She picked up her phone and dialed a number.
“hello” the person at the other end of the line
responded “how did it go?”
Bisi peeped over the side of the bed. Tunde was on the
floor in a pool of his own urine trying to move his paralysed hands and vocal
cords, eyes open in fear as they stared back at her
She smiled and blew him a silent kiss and turned away
“it was perfect” she said into the phone “thank you mama Sikira”
“it was perfect” she said into the phone “thank you mama Sikira”
“you are very welcome mama twins. Glad I could be of
help”
Bisi hung up and settled into bed pulling the covers
over her body.
She felt sorry for herself. Tunde had once told her that he would break her and make her thoroughly his, such that she would never be able to leave him. She guessed he was right. She was indeed too broken to leave. She needed him. She had become exactly what he wanted. Dependent on him. She would always need him, no matter how hard she tried. But... she didn’t need the man he had become.

And for the first time in years, she slept peacefully without
the fear of what the next day would bring
