HOW HARD CAN IT BE?

How hard can it be to get your kids to keep quiet for more than two minutes at a time?

Sometimes their constant yapping just makes it so hard to concentrate on writing a decent post without losing one's mind.
I find myself rewriting the same line over and over and over again after which I give up on it when I read it and I realise that it makes no sense whatsoever.

They say "silence is golden" but when you have kids, silence means "be on high alert". When they are quiet, something deep is going down.
I've had to learn this the hard way, unfortunately. I've also lost a quite a great deal of vaseline, lotion, powder and perfume to this.

At the same time you want them to be quiet enough just so that you can get down the few lines swimming around in your head before it floats away.

So where do you find a balance? I'm still asking myself that question.

Some days they decide that screaming "snake!","spider!", "cockroach!" or "ant!" was the next item on the day's list.
The first sudden scream always makes you jump out of your skin especially if you were not prepared for it. After some time, you get so used to the screams that your brain generally shuts out the high pitched ones. This is what I like to refer to as "selective deafness"

Then the issue of "mummy I want..." arises. I mean, sure they are growing kids, they run around all day and scream and jump and a host of other things but really, does my 5 year old have to come and announce "mummy i want to weewee" when we all know the way to the toilet? Or does my Toddler have to come and announce "mummy i want to drink water" when I have made provision for that in form of their bottles on the dinning table just so that I could have at least 15 minutes of peace between this "mummy I want..." and the next?

Motherhood is indescribable. Its fabulous, its exciting, its adventurous, its one of a kind and at the same time it drives one crazy.

So really? How does one get kids to keep quiet for more than 2 minutes at a time without it back firing on you?
